I am trying to add the 100% Black and white video FX to the video clip I have in vegas. The clip is a MOV. Is there some permission that is keeping my from doing it? When I drag and drop, the video is still in color.

    Any ideas?

I assume you’re adding the black and white effect? And you’re setting it to be black and white? If yes to both and it’s not changing, odds are you have the “Split Screen View” turned on and set to “Bypass Effects”. It’s one of the buttons above the preview screen – turn it OFF.

Take a look at Vol 6 #1 of my newsletters which describe this feature and how to use it.

That helped, thank you. Have you ever imported an MOV and a rectangle (like a hole) won’t let any effects occur and also you see the layers that are above it inside this spot?

Take a look at that article I mentioned. It explains how you can create a rectangle on the screen where the effect is not seen. But it’s only for the PREVIEW – the actual render will have the effect. The “Split Screen View” let’s you do that so you can see a before/after of the effect.

Or are you WANTING to create a hole which would let other tracks show through? In that case, the Cookie Cutter or some other masking tool would work for you.
