black and code – skipped step — HELP plz!
Posted by Jamie Lee on June 17, 2009 at 3:33 pmI’ve seen this issue mentioned but never resolved.
When I go to black and code my tape via the Edit to Tape window. It asks me to verify the settings but then skips the step where it’s supposed to ask for the initiating time code!!! In all the tutorials I’ve read this step is referred to, but I can’t get it to pop up.
If someone could please help — I would really appreciate it. 🙂 I need to master a tape today as soon as possible.
Thx

June 17, 2009 at 4:09 pmYou only get a confirm dialog. There is nothing about initiating timecode. I don’t know what it would do. What tutorials are you referring to BTW?
All the best,

June 17, 2009 at 5:44 pmSURE there is.
First you choose EDIT TO TAPE, then click on the black film strip. First box that comes up is BLACK AND CODE…current settings, or whatever settings you want….click OK. Next box that should pop up (that popped up right now as I just happen to be blacking a tape for output) is INITIALIZING TAPE…and says “Starting Timecode: 58:00:00:00″ then a box for DROP FRAME. Press OK and then you get the ‘You are about to erase the entire tape” message.
You don’t get that?
Hmmmm

June 17, 2009 at 6:01 pmNope — it goes directly from the settings check window to the “you are about to erase the entire tape …” window.
I’m stumped.

June 17, 2009 at 7:03 pmThe dialog is only displayed if the deck supports it.
What deck are you using?

June 17, 2009 at 7:28 pmHDV…you can’t use Edit to Tape with HDV…can’t black the tapes like you normally can. HDV is not a mastering format, it is a playback format only really. You can PRINT TO VIDEO to it, but only HDV.
You cannot get accurate show code onto HDV.
