I create all my MPEG-2’s using Bitvice 1.6 and never had a problem until now. I’ve got a Quicktime movie that is giving me trouble. I get an error from Bitvice stating, “Unable to create file for output MPEG-2 movie”.

The QT originated from DV, but I no idea how it was captured to QT (The file is Component Y’CbCr). The QT Movie Inspector tells me the file format is this:

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

In attempt to convert the clip to something usable, I’ve tried exporting it from FinalCut as a normal DV NTSC 720X480 and Bitvice still wouldn’t compress it.

Any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated.

    Thanks in advance…

This happens when BitVice for some reason is not allowed, by the OS, to create a new .m2v file in the folder you selected. Check that your user has write permissions for the folder.

Since BitVice is denied to open a new file, there is no point in starting an encoding session, because there is no way to save the result.
