So many opinions, hard to know what is the truth. I have been using Toast for 4 years. I use the HD preset in Compressor from the FCP suite 3. It encodes an M2v file and top on max bitrate is 32, avg 25 for a 90 minute movie. It may be a bit on the high side but they seem to look and play fine. I am using the blu ray preset in Compressor this time which is a .264. Are the bitrates the same? I read .264 was more efficient and didn’t need to encode with as high a bitrate. When I load it up, it defaults to full max 35/30 bitrate. I left it there and ran a 5 minute clip and burned to disk. It played about 20 times before it froze for a split second. Can anyone recommend the highest rate for looks and playability using the .264. Thanks.

    Stick to 20 to 25.
