Do you remember my post about different options of playing back HD? Namely using a Xbox 360, Playstation 3, or even an Apple TV? Do you have access to any of these?

NOTE: If you use an Apple TV you’ll have to convert your project to 23.98fps because the max HD file it will playback is 1280×720 24P.

Have you tried using a DVD player with and HDMI port? They upconvert SD DVDs on the fly and should look a lot better than letting the TV do it.

If you are editing in DV, what Rusell suggest about to smothing the chroma is a very good idea. But to see the results you must set your time-line in a 422 codec. DV50 at least.
You can push the data rate of the DVD whenever you know that the DVD player will cope with it. You also can work with shorter GOPs This is useful for movies with a lot of movement. The compression can be better, but this also force you to use higher data-rate with the mentioned risks. However those processes need that you make few test because there is not a universal set-up.
You must take as well in consideration the audio you are using. Aiff it sound much better than .AC3, but increase a lot the total data rate.
Russell, I used to export to Compressor from the FC time-line because the “Compression marks” I think they are useful but I don’t like to set them by hand). Bu somebody ensured me that when exporting refference movies Compressor keeps the “compressor Marks” in all the cuts and transitions.
