Bitrate settings
Going from a DV to create a DVD, I am confused about setting the constant bitrate settings.I use a calculator for the settings.I use the Dolby Digital AC-3 Pro setting for the audio. The calculator has choices for audio ranging from 32kb/s-1536kb’s PCM audio.What setting on the calculator should I use?The difference in settings seems to be a lot-depending on your audio.

The AC-3 default in Vegas is 192 kb/s.

Thanks Mike. One more question. I had always thought that the bitrate should be between 6.5-8.5. This puts mine at around 9.3. I am going from DV camcorder to DVD-sports video’s that usually last an hour. Does this seem like the correct setting to you?

My calculator shows a CBR of 9576 for one hour of DVD using Dolby 2.0 audio with no menu.

Mark, my rule of thumb is that for anything less than 70 min., I use a CBR of 8,000,000.
Most folks will bump that up to 8,500,000 but that’s as high as I’d go to ensure maximum compatibility.
