  • Bit Rate settings chart?!

    Hello

I work in Promos and motiongraphics mostly so most of the work i need to put on DVD’s (cant believe clients still demand these) is no more than a minute but sometimes as long as 10+ minutes. My question is whether or not there is a chart somewhere which explains what the ideal bit rate settings are for different length MPEG-2 SD work.

(i.e. dvdsp defaults to 4.0-7.0 Mbps but I am never dealing with 90 minutes of material)

I mostly work with 1080 media but instead of letter-boxing I just set to 16×9 letterbox – occasionally i have NTSC work as well but regardless I believe the formulas for MPEG-2 SD are most important in that I dont ever make MPEG-2 HD dvd’s)

    :15-1:00 = ?

    1:00-3:00 = ?

    5:00 – 15:00 = ?

    15:00 – 45:00 = ?

    etc…

MPEG2 for DVD is a ‘fixed’ data rate range. The total (audio and video) Mbps cannot exceed somewhere around 9.8 Mbps, but you are going to want to keep that down to around 7 to ensure compatibility across all DVD players.
