    hello gang…
well the time has come…i think we need a backup secondary camera…

my question—is the new panasonic dvx100B very different from the dvx100A?
i guess the real question is it worth spending the extra cash for it or will i be just as happy with another 100A?

also what’s your take on some of the steadycam slash similar systems out there ?
we will be doing some walking and talking type of shots also some longer moving shots for cover in a video..

    thanks for the help

Nothing beats real Steadicam or a dolly- I’ve yet to see any other rig I thought was worth buying. The 100B is quite similar to the A- mostly minor changes and is also compliant with environmental regulations for electronics gear. IMHO if an A is closer to your budget you’ll be fine.

    Arty –

To add to Noah’s answer. There were a lot of great features added to the DVX100B but one was dropped that I have used on a few occasions. The DVX100B will not do time lapse video. For instance, on the DVX100A, I can set it up to take, say, 1.5 seconds of video every 10 minutes. I felt it was something you should be aware of. Naturally, if you don’t use that feature then it is not an issue.

An additional note – a lot of people are selling their used DVX100A’s and B’s to move to HD. Look around at other forums including DVXuser.com and you should find some well priced cams.

Hope this helps. Have a great day.
