    Hello,

I have this big problem overhere.

Im not sure what the problems are fields, encoding,…I used FCP, AFX, DVD Studio PRo.
So i put all my settings i used in here. There for ill post this in different forums.

I made a short movie from about 35 min. I burned the dvd just now, and was clad the project was finily over. The result on my computer looks quit good, iff ill say myself.

I still a beginner in the bussiness so a gess i make a still make a lot of mistakes like this.

When i looked on my tv downstairs, and it is a pretty shitty flatscreen one. I noticed some of the footage got a bad view. When i look more its all the footage that has been imported and exported out off after effects: animation, some visual effects.

Because i think its a problem off the field. I will tell every render setting i did, so you could maby understand what i did wrong.

    Project file in FCP 5

    Every video sequence:
Pal Lower field 720*576 with a letterbox i used.
Some of the footage is 16/9, i used also in the 4/3 sequences

All of the footage here looks good.
    Everything was shot on DV

I got one part that was shot HDVRPRO. Who now i see, seem to be (FIeld domminace)UpperField. Crap!

I used it in the same project sequences Lower field. Pal 4/3
    1. What do i have to do change to get it to lower fields?

All of the animation are exported with refernce files out off FCP, renderd out in AFX as Full Res, No codec
Lower field, RGB+Alpha Straight Million off colors
Put back in same project sequences(FCP) lowerfield 4/3
I made animation for the dvd menu renderd it at same. Imported it right to DVD studio Pro= Looks ok on tv.

When everything was ready, i exported it to a reference file quicktime.
Than Imported it dvd studio pro.

    Setting studio Pro:
    4/3 Pal
The quictimes were encoded in dvd studio pro
    Field order auto
    1 pass vbr
    Bitrate 6 mps
    Max bit rate 7
    Good

    Thats it about it.
I now this will be nightwork. deadline tomorrow morning 11 30
    So i would appreciate help.
I think the AFX renders where bad, so i start first with this.

    Sorry for bad english

    Help APPRECIATED!

    T.

    Peace

Your biggest problem is the mixing of all the formats. Anamorphic 16:9, 4:3 and Upper / Lower Field footage. That causes a lot of issues right there.

    [Mister T.]
I used it in the same project sequences Lower field. Pal 4/3
    1. What do i have to do change to get it to lower fields?”

    Use Nattress’ Standards Converter.

[Mister T.] “The quictimes were encoded in dvd studio pro”

Don’t let DVD Studio Pro encode your files, do those first in Compressor, you have a lot more control. But you need to fix your field order issue before you compress.

[Mister T.] “I got one part that was shot HDVRPRO.”

No clue what format that is.

[Mister T.] “renderd out in AFX as Full Res, No codec”

Render your files in the Same Frame Size, Same Aspect Ration, Same Codec as your project. Sounds like you’re rendering with No Fields or the wrong field order or the wrong frame size.

    Thanks a lot man!

    >I used it in the same project sequences Lower field. Pal 4/3

The footage i ment was DVCPRO in Upperfield. 🙂
THe footage was already edited in lowerfields in the sequences.
Is that a problem, can i convert it?

Dont have Natress, can it be done with compresser or something?

I also used a preset of magic bullets coller correction and i noticed every footage that i usd with is has some issues on the tv.
Btw i dont have an external monitor.

    >renderd out in AFX as Full Res, No codec”

Render your files in the Same Frame Size, Same Aspect Ration, Same Codec as your project. Sounds like you’re rendering with No Fields or the wrong field order or the wrong frame size.

The compresser is Pal(FCP) so i dont use any codec.
Im rendering it in AFX No Codec No Alpha Premultiplied

    Thanks

[Mister T.] “Btw i dont have an external monitor.”

That’s your biggest problem right there. You cannot judge / fix any interlace (field) issues without an external monitor.

[Mister T.] “The compresser is Pal(FCP) so i dont use any codec.
Im rendering it in AFX No Codec No Alpha Premultiplied”

Again, render in AFX in the same codec as your project. In your case, DV PAL and ensure that your Frame Size, Field Order and Pixel aspect are correct in AFX.

Ok got it, FCP sees the AFX animation as upper evendo my sets are in lower…problem solved. Codec Pal indeed! 50 clips togo!

But still what should i do with the upper footage for the beginning?
Dont have the app for it.. buying to late.

    Thanks!!!!!

No suggestions for that, sorry. Nattress is what I use.
