    Hey everyone,
I’m a long time creative cow surfer but newly joined member. I need come help. Me and my friends are putting together a film but I am having some trouble with keying I normally can fix. Please keep in minds we aren’t professionals so this may be a dumb question. Okay, We shot up against a bluescreen the other day. My friends, not wanting to tell me, had no clue as to how to set it up (which is okay) but the lighting turned out horrible. I was able to key it with Keylight in After Effects cs3. But I got that ripple effect around the edge of my actors and usually its solved with a bit of matte choking. Well not this time. Could it be because the screen was so horribly lit? Because I have other bluescreen footage lit fine and it works great with no noticeable ripple effect. But this is horrible, it looks like bulges coming out of my actors. Is it because of the lighting? Nothing I try works, please give me some ideas and advice. Personally, I think it calls for a reshoot with the screen properly lit.

    Thanks
    Rich

sounds like you’ll be better off reshooting… but if you want to keep trying to salvage the shoot, aharon’s super tight junk mattes technique may help. the idea of junk mattes is to limit the amount of colors that need to be keyed out, and hopefully leave more of the subject keyed in.

also, barend’s procedural matte creation technique may help. it’s a pretty solid method for keying.
