I’m trying to figure out how this effect was achieved so we can try something similar for a project at work. Here’s the scene I’m talking about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkAwpDeu-Ts

Not much is turning up on the web, and not every shot looks like green screen (not to me anyway). I figure their technique might be similar to the Philips Carousel project, using a motion controlled rig so they can shoot the scene and backplates, but I’m not sure.

Does anyone know if this scene in Big Fish has been written about anywhere?

    Thanks

I dimly recall reading about it. The popcorn I know was digital animation. The rest if I recall right was a combination of the actors just being really good at standing still, plus some compositing tricks of layering them “in depth”, plus the motion controlled camera. Kind of a salad of techniques used.

Rent the DVD, I think there’s a “making of” featurette in the bonus materials on the disk.

Thanks Mark. Renting the DVD is a good idea.
