How shall i put this? The sound recordist placed the mic on top of a computer with not 1, not 2 but three fans, and no, his intention was not to collect the sound of the fans. Other than the noise gate or equalizer, is there a trick of the trade here to get rid of the sound of the fan?

This is the kind of “continuous” noise that a program like Bias “SoundSoap” can help remove.

Bias has recently released “SoundSoap 2”

    https://www.bias-inc.com/products/soundsoap/

SoundSoap 2 is priced at about $100.

If you have Apple Soundtrack Pro, it contains a similar noise reduction filter.

Now, what you REALLY need is a “get a better sound-operator who wears HEADPHONES DURING the shoot” FILTER!!!

    Thanks for the response Matte,

I do, indeed, have Sound Track Pro, but unfortunately I am using Pro Tools LE for this particular session.

And about the 3rd option…it saddens me to say…he WAS wearing headphones (believe it or not), I guess he just didn’t realise he had to listen to what was coming through them!!!!!

    Thanks again.

Bizarre! Did you do anything weird to tick him off or ws he just deaf and dumb?

That was no recordist, that was an idiot.
