[Craig Seeman] “perhaps it’s the “missing link” for Motion round tripping.”

I’m keeping my eye on “Extensions” i.e. “Actions” for that, too. Seems the perfect and easy route to go, maybe even for a 3rd party? I just don’t know what the exact limitations are.

    Seriously. Bring it on.

It is interesting how much Apple seems to be changing its tune to third party extension. iOS 8’s “Share” extensions open a lot of capability, and Yosemite seems to have mirrored some of that capability.

I just hope it pans out, and that it all works! 🙂

    Thanks for the link, Craig.

But yeah, the ACTION extensions is the one I’m keeping my eye on.

“Action Extensions declare which kinds of data they can handle; they can appear in any application that deals with one or more of those data types. They can be used to view content in a new way or to edit content and then return the modified version back to the host application. An Action Extension’s interface can appear as a modal window or as a custom view directly within the host application.”

Here’s to hoping for the best and all that free space in the dashboard getting plastered full of button upon button, so we can finally feel all “pro” again when we show others our FCP interface! 😉

Using the “Reader” function of Safari takes a lot of the scare out of the 25 pages by the way. And little is actually dedicated to the actual functionality of Extensions. Very interesting to fly though either way though.

The timetable will be interesting to see.

How long the FCP X dev team have been working with these frameworks, so when we might see the results is the real question.

[Craig Seeman] “AVMovie with support for AVFragmentedMovie!

Hodgetts thinks about the QT Reference movie equivalent but perhaps it’s the “missing link” for Motion round tripping.”

My heart leapt at the thought of ref movies being supported in AVFoundation but no such luck.

Fragmented movie refers to a fragment duration setting in AVF that allows a movie recordings be safely closed at this interval protecting the recording incase it is busted. This has the side effect of enabling read while recording. What AVFoundationMovie seems to allow is the app to get updated allowing the growing file to grow within the app unlike with FCPX and 7 which requires one switch away and back from the app to update the duration.
