Bezier handles in Graph editor?
Posted by Editing-jos on January 25, 2006 at 1:45 amI downloaded AE7 demo.
Just to see how the Graph Editor is. Because that is really the most unprofessional part of 6.5.
Common Adobe. Look at any other program in the business. Like digitalfusion/lighwave/max…So I was very happy that adobe did something about it. But maybe its my sudden dissapointment that affects me from finding the right button. But isnt it still possible to use BEZIER handles on the keyframes itself?

Still dont see the ability of customizable beziers on the keyframes (not velocity). We really need better keyframe controls, especially with all the 3D functions.
Adobe:
-Why only linear, continous bezier, automatic?-Why not able to only use keyframes on the channels that NEED to be keyframed? ex. If you move X position it creates still keyframes for Y and Z on that frame!!! = Clusters of keyframs you dont even need!!! Not very pro. (Look at other programs like Lightwave/Digitalfusion)

A bouncing ball doesnt seem possible in AE?
Because you need to edit the Y motion. But since the X and Y are locked, the X takes over any bezier control you add to Y. While the X motion needs to be independent. (linear from left to right)This is the way it should be possible!
https://fubar.fateback.com/lwgraph.png (copy/paste in browers if clicking doesnt work)ps: You can do it with 2 null objects, one for X and one for Y. But that is just a insane workflow.

January 25, 2006 at 4:48 amYou CAN do that, you can use the usual adobe distortion controls like with masks or illustrator. I don’t know how, as I haven’t used it yet, but I’ve seen it, so keep checking or look at the documentation, cause it has to be somewhere.

There is a limitation with showing spatial curves, but you can edit velocitycurves just fine. Although not X, Y and Z separately.

January 25, 2006 at 1:18 pmI’m not whining!
Its a fact not?Hacking the preferences isnt a normal way of doing stuff. It should be implanted standard.
I really love after effects but this drives me crazy. I wish someone from adobe here would answer me about this problem.Btw, is it only me or is a bouncing ball not possible like I showed few threads up?
Because Y velocity changes the X velocity also and this makes it look like crap! -

Well, like you mentioned, currently there’s no separate curves for x, y and z translation.
You could actually achieve bouncing ball easily with only one null object though. And with 7.0 you can have both curves overlayed in the graph editor, so it’s not like it’s a huge deal…

I’m gonna do a 2 minute project with 3D flythoughs.
With like lotsss of layers. And when I still got shitty keyframes controls, that is gonna cost some extra time/money.I just wanna know if its so hard to change it like all the other programs work?
‘Full spline control on keyframes + independent channel keyframes’ is all I want. 🙂
