bezier handles in “Edit Value Graph”
Posted by Jonas Espinoza on August 18, 2008 at 7:10 pmive got a fast camera move into a slower move, and am trying to get access to my bezier handles
on the edit speed graph i get the horizontal tangent handles, but why dont i get handles on the edit value graph, which is where i would think to do some smoothing, i get the pen tool and option-click with the bezier handle tool (carrot shaped) but get no handles
whats the deal?

This is probably related to the inability to edit the rate of change of the X, Y and Z values independently. For now you’ll just need to make your changes in the Speed graph.
I suppose an alternative would be to split the values on a Null object controller by making a separate slider for the X, Y and Z position values, then linking the postion values of the camera to those sliders. You could then adjust the value graphs of the sliders independently. I think that would just end up getting messy though.

August 18, 2008 at 9:13 pmi do have some different pulls/moves going on different null layers
im just perplexed that all there is is the speed graph, when it would make sense to have some kind of better way to smooth the in and out of a keyframe. the speed value handle doesnt work the same way i would expect bezier handle editing of keys – even the older versions of AE have this
i think in version 8 no less that this shouldnt be a problem!
this functionality, unless someone tells me different, feels very much like an iApp

Well, you may not like hearing it, but these are the facts:
1) The speed graph represents the rate of change of the value graph. So if you just want to smooth ins and outs, you’re better off using the speed graph.
2) No previous version of AE offered any better options.

November 13, 2008 at 11:25 pmThis “feature” makes me absolutely insane… like furious-hot-headed-i-want-to-break-my-f*&%ing computer insane. I realize that position values are edited directly in the comp window, but I can’t count the number of times that this is utterly impractical or downright impossible. Anytime I want to move an object purely horizontally or vertically, it is INCREDIBLY difficult to get my bezier curves the way I want them….
ADOBE – WHY can’t I edit them in the graph editor like everything ELSE????
I feel like I’m using some horrible software from 1989. This pisses me off to no end. Could this be fixed with a plug-in?
UGH!!

November 14, 2008 at 12:02 amIncidentally, there *is* a way to get around this. This website explains how:
