  • Beware “Remove Duplicate Frames” in FCP 5.1.2

We shoot with P2 cards and Firestore in 720 24PN and 720 24P respectively.

In the new P2 import interface in Final Cut Pro, it is less convenient to see the option to “remove advanced pulldown/duplicate frames.” As such, on a recent import, this option happened to be activated while we were importing P2 24PN acquired clips. The result was that 3 of 36 clips refused to import (even after selecting “retry”). That said, the other 33 24PN clips imported with no problem.

Once we went into preferences and turned off “remove duplicate frames,” the last 3 clips imported just fine.

This option is not as easy to see in this version, so if you source from both types of material just be aware to set your preference correctly before the import.

(In the previous version, the checkbox didn’t seem to have this effect.)
