[walter biscardi] “What’s interesting is that we’re less than 2 weeks from NAB and there is no announcement of an Apple Event on the Apple website. I also asked a few friends and they haven’t heard of one scheduled either.”

I had heard sometime back that there was not going to be an Apple Event on the Sunday prior to NAB, It was posted as not going to happen on the Apple Training Listserve early last month.

So it looks as if the only FCP meeting at NAB this year is going to be the FCPUG SuperMeet.

So I guess FCP 5.1 Universal will be the big news from the Apple camp this year. Pretty quiet year then it appears.

[Sean ONeil] ” that FCP 6 was being worked on and they would additionally release a suped up version of it that would support 4k film resolutio”

Bare in mind that there are already 2K easy setups in FCP, what about the hardware?
I don’t think it will be a quiet NAB, there are other apps to go UB and Apple always have a surprise or two.

    Dear Cody,

    Read the FCP marketing pages.
    Read the Late Breaking News
    Read the README.
    Read the installation warnings.

If you’re incapable of responsibly acting on your own to protect your editing system’s integrity, then just wait for the early adopters to run the updates and read about their experiences.

Thank you for your understanding. I hope I helped at least one other ‘brainless’ soul.

Who knows. It’s an internet rumor. I would imagine that at a $10k price, it would fully support RT effects for uncompressed 4k. Maybe it includes extra hardware.

For $10K? Uncompressed RT 4K effects? I really don’t think so. That would be awfully darn cheap for 4K realtime features. I’ll just take a lot of RT, and I mean Edit to Tape don’t have to render anything RT, for everything up to 4:2:2 8bit uncompressed HD.

But then you just never know. Whatever it is, I’m thinking that version would probably have to wait for the Intel desktops which the current issue of MacAddict has a small preview about. They sound great.

For what its worth, while you guys are picking fights, I can say the the xml project move is spotty at best and is not as reliable a way to transport the projects as it was in past versions. I have have plenty o’ trouble with having 5.1 and 5.04 systems simultaneously existing in my facility. I’ll bring them all up as shows clear, however until then plugging along.
