Better tool than “Brightness and Contrast?”
Posted by Pat Adams on December 26, 2014 at 5:36 amA few pages back, Edward Troxel mentioned there is a way to brighten/contrast without affecting every pixel of the entire clip.
Could someone point me in that direction?

December 26, 2014 at 1:35 pmYou should be using Color Curves instead of the primitive Brightness and Contrast tool. It gives you lots more control. You can use a Mask to only affect part the frame with an effect. You can also use the Secondary Color Corrector to only affect certain colors in a frame.

December 26, 2014 at 5:34 pmThank you John. I have fiddled with those tools, but without much success. I’ll check for a tutorial on this site.

December 26, 2014 at 7:13 pmFor Color Curves you want to start by making an ‘S’ and adjusting from there. You can double-click on the curve to create another point and really target what is affected but I fond that most of the time, a simple ‘S’ is all that’s needed.

There are lots of great tutorials here on the COW for some of the others.~jr
