I was looking to purchase a new MacPro, I had originaly budgeted in a 3.2 2-Quad Core with 4Gb Ram. Now that apple has come out with the new Nehalem processors, I was curoius how the bottom tier of the new systems rate against the previous generation 3.2 quad. My budet is about $4,000.00. Am I better off with the previous generation 3.2 Quad with 4 GB Ram as opposed to the new generation 2.26ghz 2-Quad core with 6GB Ram? I will be using this system primarily for Final Cut Studio, but my main concern in speed is Render Times.

    Thanks

Very tough call at this point in time Gerald, as no one is really using the latest MacPros in a real-world setting yet, and $4000 will get you in the front door on the entry level of the new machines, but not much beyond. Take a look at the latest Barefeets write-up at https://www.barefeats.com/nehal04.html they say that Vast quantities of RAM and the largest number of cores you can get are very, very important. And, I can assure you, even if FCP is not optimized for the 64-bit operating environment of Snow Leopard, the RAM and the number of cores in your machine still are bound to make a huge difference.
