Hi
Try this – its a PAL document, but the explanation is applicable to an NTSC analogue situation:

November 23, 2008 at 3:09 am“STUDPID QUESTION: Is there a difference in pixel size between analog beta and DV?”
Yes: Beta do not use pixels. Analog video do not use pixels. Pixel is a digital concept.
This is areal mess of thread and shows that without a basic understanding of analog video (Composite and components) is impossible to understand digital video.
And some clear digital concept would help too.

November 24, 2008 at 2:19 am[Keith Heard] “… edit a program using SD footage shot DVCam 16×9 & Beta SP 16×9. The final output will have the 16×9 footage “letterboxed” in 4×3″
Looking ahead, seeing as you’ve shot everything 16:9, I’d be inclined to edit and master in 16:9. Then make a 16:9 Letterbox alternative master, to suit the purpose you described. If, however, at some point in the future, you want to repurpose your program in the more-modern 16:9 format, or use part of this master in another program, the full 16:9 will save a lot of headaches, time & money.
And easy to do at this time.cheers,
Neil. -
