  • Best way to pulse/wave a grid of squares?

Posted by Kit Carson on July 18, 2016 at 3:17 pm

I am looking for ways to create waves effects of a grid of white squares.

I want the animation to shift across the grid in waves, tilting in 3d, pulsing, inverting, flipping, falling, extruding, minimising. Or even better would be cubes, with 3d lighting effects… Is there a good plugin or technique for this?

    Thanks!

card dance can do some of this.

when you apply it to a layer, it will cut it up into a grid of 3d ‘cards’. you can then use ‘gradient layers’ to manipulate position, rotation and scale. you can use wave world to create an animated wave-like gradient layer in a pre-comp to get a pretty realistic wave movement for the cards.

it can’t do cubes, or any type of extrusion.

CINEMA 4D Broadcast Edition has the Mograph toolset which makes stuff like this very easy.

You can do a lot of this with Element 3D animation engine, too.

You could also consider Freeform Pro with the Render Cubes option.
