Best way to import files
Posted by Stephen Smith on March 11, 2013 at 9:55 pmI have hundreds of Quicktime files placed in well organized folders on a hard drive. When ever I drag a folder into Premiere it only maintains the first folder and all sub folders don’t exist any more but the clips in them do. Any way to import a folder with subfolders easily?

March 11, 2013 at 10:46 pmPicked this up from Jeff Greenberg.
Import your clip/bin/folder structure to AE.
AE will retain the folder structure.
Select all. Copy.
Paste into Premiere Pro.

March 12, 2013 at 11:09 amIt seems you can copy/paste from the Bridge also, but have not been able to get that working.
Must be doing something wrong.———————————————–

March 12, 2013 at 4:18 pmThe AE work around worked perfect. I sure hope Premiere will be able to import file folders like AE does in the next version. Thanks for the help.

March 12, 2013 at 6:23 pmThanks Stephen.
I really hate it when I get things organized into folders and some software messes it all up. That also happens when I use Project Manager. It takes all files and dumps them into one folder. I made a request on that one all right.

March 12, 2013 at 6:41 pmI also just requested:
-Choosing attributes to paste
-No ability to search for clips to reconnect
-Multiple open projects
-Partial renders
-No through edits
-and for AE to offer a spell check feature. That being said, I love Premiere more then FCP. I’m working on a project right now where I have a color correction, garbage matte and keying filter applied. The background has a blur image and it plays in real time and is super sharp. That is cool.

March 13, 2013 at 8:20 pmYou can do that from the Effect Controls.
Highlight the clip in the EC and copy the effects you want.
Select clips on timeline and paste.< partial render> as in render timeline or export.
In timeline you can use in and outpoint as in export as well.< open multiple projects>
You can import multiple sequences.———————————————–

You can do that from the Effect Controls.

Select clips on timeline and paste.I new you could do that with filters but didn’t realize you could also select Motion, Opacity and Time Remapping. That is handy to know.

< partial render> as in render timeline or export.
In timeline you can use in and outpoint as in export as well.Yes Render, often times I’ll set a big chunk of the time line to render and in the middle of the render I’ll get asked to show a part of the video or make a change or something which will make is so I have to stop the render in mid process. I lose what ever it was working on in the middle of a clip. I would love to have the renders up to when I stop the process.

< open multiple projects>
You can import multiple sequences.Yes I can, the problem is that Premiere links to a clip in the project. For example, I’m working on a project and another editor on a different machine is working on the same project at the same time using the same clips. When I import that project file it also imports the clips that project files was using even though I’m using the same clips. I then have duplicate clips which makes it take longer to open up the project and things get confusing especially since I can no longer rely on the video usage feature which I love and always wished FCP would have.

March 15, 2013 at 12:23 pmAm I the only one who’s annoyed that you can’t drag or copy multiple clips from a sequence into a bin? That one is a major limitation for me – especially these days where I’m using plural eyes, which brings in synced clips as a timeline. Sometimes while reviewing footage I like to see it in a timeline then move selects into a selects bin. Not anymore – I end up just leaving everything in a sequence.
