November 28, 2007 at 6:06 amHere is a way to have a bit of fun… (but not a professional way)
Try connecting another speaker to the output of your amp. connect this speaker (which you might call rear speaker) to the + positive of both left AND + positive of right speaker outputs of your amp.
This will give you the difference between L and R …
Its a fun effect on big stereo stuff, mono sound will NOT appear in the rear……
NOTE: this is NOT 5.1 surround ….. but fun ….

November 28, 2007 at 5:37 pmhey thanks for the lab experiment, but I meant audio files for dvd authoring.
I know there are very high end mix houses that can synthesize surround from older stereo sources by filtering the different frequencies.
it just seems there must be a program that can do it by now… -

December 27, 2007 at 2:32 amUnwarp also runs on the Powercore platform:

As a “native” processor (ProTools not required), Powercore plug-ins should run inside FCP, Soundtrack Pro, etc. I haven’t done this myself, but I am now on a waiting list for the new Powercore X8 Firewire. TC was supposed to ship in December, but I’m now told to expect delivery the first week of January.
