[peter hitchcock] “Hi we’re doing some evaluation tests on the HVX200 using a P2 card and bringing it into FCP 5. I see no HVX codec to import in FCP, so is the setting DVCpro 100? “
Correct, partilally. That is but ONE of the formats it shoots. This camera shoots DVCPRO HD and DVCPRO 50 to the P2 card and miniDV in the tape drive. And it shoots various formats of DVCPRO HD: 720p, 1080i in a variety of formats It records the footage as MXF files, but once you import them into FCP the footage will be DVCPRO HD or DVCPRO 50 as quicktime files. [peter hitchcock] “Any preffered settings on the Camera to get a sharp High Def quality?”
I prefer the 720p24 at 24PN. That gets you 24 frames of video and 720P is darn sharp. Very intercuttable with the Varicam footage I also work with. But many people also shoot 1080i. It all depends on what your master output will be.
[peter hitchcock] “Also preffered settings on FCP to evaluate the picture and sound quality?
The monitor I’m using is the 23″ Cinema display and I have a broadcast 15″”
I am not sure what you mean here. YOu can judge it just fine at full quality, or you can upconvert it o uncompressed HD. Again, it all depends on how you will master the footage, what format you will output to.
