  • Best way to do tracking dots?

    Hi

Just in the middle of my first proper attempt at motion tracking with a perspective corner pin. I’ve got 4 dots (in a square) drawn on the side of a white coffee cup with black marker pen. Am using luminance values to track these points. It’s working OK but I’m wondering if it could be better if I used colored dots and RGB values to track? Or something else?

    Any suggestions much appreciated.

    thanks

You could precomp the coffee cup and in the precomp add a levels filter and create more contrast, then in the main comp you would motion track this precomp.

in my experience having a nice contrast luma mark to track is great.

but you can track a green/yellow cross on a greenscreen when you have to these days.

id still take high contrast mark first though

    who is that masked man…

Your quite right. In my tests I’ve been using a mesh warp to get around this and a trackmat to put a little hint of the reflections you can see on the cup back into the shot.

Not sure whether the mesh warp is really the best way to go though. Anyone know any other good ways to do this? (3rd party plugs maybe?)

    Cheers
