Best way to do slow motion?
Posted by Sean Tatalovich on February 24, 2009 at 3:20 amI know there are different ways to do it but what is the best way to do speed changes such as fight scene where it is normal motion. then a punch is thrown and slows down and as it hits speeds up fast? Similar to music videos?

Then use a plugin like Twixtor for best results

February 24, 2009 at 11:48 pmHere’s an interesting way to get REALLY clear slo motion. But calls for some pre-planning and some extra software (though you can DO it in Compressor – I never got around to doing another version of this as it was once written out – but THAT link is dead — but if you understand what SHAKE is doing you can easily do it in Compressor)

HOWEVER —
What you are talking about is what I like to call the SHREK effect (gah, threeboys will give you odd titles to things) but what it really is is a simple time ramp.
We USED to do it by cutting the video into segments and setting rates to 50%, 60%, 75%, 90%, 100% or so… then came twixor!! YEAH!!! works great. THEN CAME time remapping in FCP and we were ALL SAVED!!!
Where we?
Check out time remapping in the manual — give it a shot… then come back and take a look at this:
Then go back to the manual… then come back here and ask us again!!
Good luck,
Mike
