Best way to convert HDV edited project to SD
Posted by Jon Sekiguchi on June 3, 2010 at 6:58 pmI have FCP6 and captured footage in HDV and edited in HDV. Now ready to output project to a SD DVD. What is the best way to convert the HDV project to SD? Thanks to the experts!

June 3, 2010 at 7:03 pmDon’t. Use Compressor to encode directly to the DVD compression. There are presets in there. Then take the result to DVD Studio Pro.

June 3, 2010 at 7:07 pmAll DVDs except BluRays are made exactly the same way using the exact same proceedures. So, if you know how to make a DVD from SD material, just do the exact same thing.
Compressor typically senses the HD material and sets the proper flags during encoding using the DVD presets and DVDSP typically senses those flags and sets the proper 16×9 settings for widescreen that also letterbox on 4×3 TVs.

December 9, 2010 at 7:49 amI have a simuliar problem.
I have a 14 minute HDV project in FCP Studio 6.
Looks great in HD. when taking it to DVD there are busy barbershop type artifacts on edges and the
CG titles look terrible.
I have tried just about everything. Rendered in Compressor… tried rendering in many different
formats using the export using QT conversion, then bringing into DVDSP to do the encode.
Nothing gets rid of the poor quality images.
With such a great looking HD image there must be a way to get a decent SD DVD.ANy thoughts would be appreciated.
