I have just begun using a Focus Firestore FS-4 with a Canon XL-1.

It has worked really well and is taking in files seamslessly as advertised.

The one thing I found hard though is to know which clip is which when I bring it into a FCP project.

The Firestore assigns somewhat cryptic numbers to each clip. The only way to know which are keepers and which are outtakes is to scan through them all and check timecode.

Has anyone out there found a more elegant way to manage clips that have been recorded directly to a hard drive?

    Thanks

    Jack

    Jack,

I have a Canon XL-1 and am trying to get a used Firestore FS-100 to work with the camera. So far I have not been able to actually get the FS-100 to record in any mode.
What happens is the FS-100 gets the signal from the camera and starts the record mode, but then immediately flashes a “Please wait…” screen and then stops. If it’s in syncro slave mode, this cycle goes on endlessly as long as the camera is recording.

Do I have a defective FS-100, or am I just doing something wrong? I have not found many posts online with people using these two devices together, so I was about ready to chalk it up as incompatibility until I found your post.

    Any help would be appreciated.
