Best way to capture from a DVD to FCP7
I captured video clips from a DVD disc to FCP7. The DVD was presented in HD size. When I started to edit it along with real HD video in FCP, the DVD clips have black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. The picture looks stretched. I captured the DVD clips by going from a DVD player to a mini-dv camcorder to FCP.
What am I doing wrong? Is this even possible? Thank you. -

Are you SURE the DVD is HD? Unless it’s BluRay…it’s SD. And if you run it through a DV deck or camera…now it’s SD…and in the DV format to boot. Letterboxing on DVDs is normal, and VERY common.

Next time, rip the DVD using MPEG Streamclip. Its free, very fast, and works great,letting you get the footage into whatever codec you need for the edit.
