    Hiya,

I have a video ready to go on the web – but I’m a bit confused about the file formats available. After some searching on Google the best I can find is that the windows AVI file and also the MPG4 are the best ones to convert to flv to keep as much quality as possible.

So my questions are, is that right?? And if it is, is there a notable quality difference between the MPG4 and the AVI when converted to FLV??

Please help a confused person! 🙂

How are you going to do the FLV conversion?

If you are doing it yourself, then a lossless intermediary to your hard disk is how you’ll want to proceed: AVI + Lagarith codec is what I’d recommend.

I suspect you mean “FLV on YouTube” et al, right? In that case, you can’t just create a humongous lossless intermediary, because you need to upload the file, so we need the most efficient, best encoding we can get. This is a longish discussion, but it starts with MP4 (H.264), I’d recommend Main Concept AVC and a data rate up in the 10-20Mbps range.
