Best tool/method to remove film scratches
I know there are lots of fx to add film scratches, but I need a tool to remove them. I have a 16mm film that has been digitized into HD and it has vertical scratches running for seconds to minutes in different parts of the frame. I’m trying a trail version of BCC Wire Remover (selecting method: cover) and it sort of does the job. In order to cover a scratch I need to use a width of about 16 to 20 and that leaves a noticeable blurred line. A typical scratch does drift a little from side-to-side therefore requiring the width. I am new to this tool…am I using it incorrectly? Is there a better tool or way to do this?

Over on the Doom site there is are extensive discussions on using Avisynth and the DeScratch module. This is way above my head.

I played with Neat Video’s plug-in and it seems to do only de-noise the picture and didn’t really take care of the scratches (there may be 1 to 3 in a frame).
I looked at the vegasaur site and it does not seem to do what I want.
As for Avisynth ad Descratch….haven’t really had a chance to get into it…looks like a big learning curve….I need more time to deal with this and I’m not sure if it will do the trick.
Does anyone out there have experience removing film scratches and therefore a good proven tool?
