Best to upgrade to OS X Big Sur on Mid-2015 Macbook Pro?
I have a mid-2015 Macbook Pro (Catalina) that has a faulty keyboard and is experiencing all kinds of performance issues, especially overheating (the kernel task is often >100% when the room gets even slightly warm). Also a few peculiarities in Premiere Pro while rendering or sometimes refusing playback (sometimes I get a yellow missing media message for a split second before playback begins).
These I might attack individually and consider whether my external USB and Thunderbolt media drives might be contributing.
However, I have been given a used (but not AS USED) Mid-2015 Macbook Pro. I intend to install Adobe Creative Cloud on it and I am eager to compare — but compare what? It is currently running Yosemite, but for an apples-to-apples comparison I should upgrade to Catalina, and the Adobe site says that the minimum OS X should be Big Sur. The conventional knowledge is that newer operating systems are designed to use more resources (that may already be the case as I am running Catalina).
Should I try Premiere Pro on Yosemite first?
Should I compare the similar-vintage Macbook Pros on Catalina?
Is it always best to meet Adobe’s minimum requirements and expect that Big Sur will provide the best possible results?
