We just put together a RAID0 Array (3ware hardware & samsung f3 drives)

I’m getting a good read rate benchmark & access time on HDTune, but I am wondering about the stripe size making a difference in video editing.

A google search shows that a lot of people reccomend “the bigger stripe, the better”
But I came across a post from an individual who contacted their RAID hardware manufacturer’s support, who recommended a smaller stripe size of 64k for video editing because of all of the random access. This was the only info I found that seemed to be coming from a source instead of personal opinion, and most posts were a few years old.

Right now my stripe size is at 256k. It’s purpose is purely for serving up the footage. (This project has about 5000 HD files) Previews/Renders go to other storage

    Any experiences/recommendations?

Well I don’t know if it makes a difference, but I dumped all the footage on the RAID using the 256k stripe, and it seems to be playing the footage very smoothly even when there are lots of fast cuts, so no issues yet…..
