well I figure I can just use the downward facing arrow and keyframe it as I need it to move.. seems simple enough.. I’m just not sure what that other fellow was talking about =)

What he is saying is that you don’t make one picture bright. You start with ALL bright – then dim all but one. The cookie cutter lets the brightness show through on just one of them. The 30% layer dims the rest.

    Here’s an example:

    https://www.jetdv.com/vegas/DimmedWithCookieCutter.veg

In this example is a text generated media on track 2. This is a FULLY BRIGHT generated media where you would use your FULLY BRIGHT image.

On track 1 is a black generated media. The opacity has been dropped to around 30% to “dim” the fully bright image. A cookie cutter effect was added to the black generated media and set to scroll the “cut out” from left to right. As it scrolls, a portion of the text will become bright with the rest remaining dim because the cookie cutter is allowing the original image to show through the “cut out”.

Substitute your own file on track 2 and adjust the cookie cutter as needed.

I see how it works now; thanks! Is there a way to make a portrait oriented rectangle instead of landscape? That’s the shape I need to place over the chord diagram.. The square won’t fit right

I figured an example would help clear things up.

There are various shapes available in the Cookie Cutter but it is very limited. You COULD create a mask using another method of any size/shape you want. One method would be to use Bezier Masks instead of the cookie cutter using this exact same method. The Bezier mask can be any shape/size you wish. Bezier Masks are discussed in Vol 3 #4 of my newsletters (link below my name)
