Posted by Bryan Long on February 24, 2008 at 6:19 amI just got a new comp with 4 gigs of RAM. What are the best settings to use all of the RAM?
Thanks,

February 25, 2008 at 6:08 pmgenerally the default ae settings are quite good, particularly if you have a lot of ram.
there are some further tweaks you can make if you have cs3 and multiple cores/processors. with cs3 each core can be allotted up to 3gb of ram… so if you had a 2-core machine and had enabled multiprocessing, you might want to try a max ram cache setting of around 50% (enough to give 1.5gb to each core). if you had a 4-core, a setting around 25% may give you enough ram to use all 4 cores for multiprocessing.
a good way to test settings is to pick a comp that takes about 15 minutes to render. make changes to the max ram cache setting in the memory & cache preference and render. then compare the numbers. repeat until you get numbers work for your machine and setup.
