  • best settings for HD downloadable file?

    Hello all,
I thought this would be the best place to ask this, so forgive me if it’s not in the right section.
I’m getting ready to export a 75 min film for a digital download on a website, and wanted
to check the best settings? I would like to keep it 1280×720 to keep the file size managable, but what about the codec, audio and FPS settings? (This site will be like i-tunes for an indie film) The current FCP timeline is 1440×1080, 23.97, Pro-res 422 HQ,
and I’ll be exporting from FCP. What’s best?

    Ok thanks!
    Jeff

You might want to check the standard specs for Youtube & Vimeo to get an idea of best frame size, data rate etc. You don’t change frame rate, just scale frame size & compression data rate. H264 is probably the most universal codec for web delivery.

Also if you are supplying for a particular web site, then ask the webmaster what they want.

Try sending the timeline to Compressor and choose the “Apple TV” preset — its 1280×720 and will yield a pretty nice compression. You can even fiddle with the bitrate to tweak the final file size.
