  • Best setting using Stills

    Hi,

I’ve got a bunch of hi-res jpegs that I want to add some motion to, accompanying some music.

The final output will be a DV Pal DVD.

    So, a few questions:
What’s the recommended sequence settings? Best compressor etc?

Should I convert the stills to PNGs, or TIFFs first? I know jpeg’s not a good format.

What’s the correct setting to accommodate the square-pixel-to-rectangular-pixel issue, if I correct the stills in FCP?

    Many thanks,

    Jimi Lund

    Jimi,

Stills that are jpegs won’t get any better in quality by making them into tiffs. The damage is already done. But, as a rule, your stills should be twice the frame size at 72 dpi, too high rez images can choke FCP and cause artifacts.

As to sequence settings, work in uncompressed 8 bit or ProRes, your final DVD will look better than if you work in DV. No need to work in square pixels.

    Have a wonderful day.
