  • best replacement boot drive for G5?

I seem to be having some bad luck. My stock boot drive in my year-old G5 was making funn sounds so I replaced it with a Maxtor drive that I had. Unfortunately and w/o warning, the Maxtor drive died this past week so I need to get another replacement. Maxtor is out as a brand as my experience has been bad and their reputation is likewise. I heard from a company that makes raids to go with either Seagate or Western Digital, then I read an article on bare feats in Auguest of last year warning against Seagate 7200.10 drives in Macs: https://www.barefeats.com/quad08.html The explanation is a bit brief and I don’t really understand it, but apparently Seagate 7200.10 drives are a bit slow in Macs. Anyway, I then looked at Western Digital drives but got confused when I found their ‘Enterprise’ or RE drives. Apparently they’re designed to run in raids and run constantly, but I can’t find any speed test or much more info on them. At any rate, I was just wondering what drive would be a wise choise for a fast yet safe G5 boot drive. Any suggestions? Thanks ahead of time for any help!

Every Maxtor drive housed in a G5 here at the station has failed. Even some of the replacement Maxtor drives failed. Latest replacement drives have been WD’s. Have not lost a Seagate or Western Digital drive in nine years.
