Yea, I haven’t had to install any codecs on my Windows 7 workstation or MacBook Pro to get MP4 files to play. Perhaps XP might not have the codec but if you upgrade to Windows Media Player 11 on XP it will.

August 29, 2012 at 3:19 pmGood to know, Thanks John.
Do you know of any way to get the codec without installing MP?
Or… I’m assuming that installing QuickTime installs the codec as well.
True?Gilles

August 29, 2012 at 3:26 pmGilles, if you don’t want to install the latest version of WMP, give VLC or Media Player Classic- Home Cinema a try.
Both are open source and therefore free.

August 29, 2012 at 3:32 pmHey Mike!
Nice seeing you on the Cow again! It’s not for me actually… it’s to make it as painless as possible (fewer installs or system changes as possible) for my clients to view the files successfully. So if adding the codec would be as simple as installing a small “patch”, when viewing problems creep up due to an older PC… that would be swell.
