Yes, you can. You have to replace both drives at the same time and then put the same drives back into the chassis in the same order.
So you have to keep pairs of drives if you want to do the RAID.
We just run them as individual drives here, no RAID.

September 18, 2009 at 12:46 pmI purchased a Drobo about six months ago and it’s been nothing but trouble. Very slow and completely unreliable. I use a Mac 10.4.11 with a FireWire 800 connection. I bought the Drobo housing and added 4x1TB sata drives. Turns out the initial power supply for the drive wasn’t strong enough for the system. Even after Drobo replaced it, I still can’t reliably copy large files to it. It’s now nothing but a boat anchor on my desk. I highly recommend purchasing something other than Drobo.
