    HI all

I have been encoding lots of flash files using EPISODE in the past few months and have a few questions.

most of our projects are being edited 16×9, 29.97 DV/NTSC, using FCP 5.1.4 on MAC PROS. We are shooting, 24p 16×9. I was told that the best looking codec to export was ANIMATION best quality, millions colors, then using EPISODE I encode those into flash(480×270, 15 FPS) and get a pretty good looking final project. But think we can do better.

of course the problem we are having is
    1. ANIMATION files are very large
    2. I have also had problems encoding this to mpeg using episode

what i am looking for is a recommendation regarding the best way to export out of FCP into Episode
    to make FLASH files.

We have started to shoot 24pa and starting very soon will be editing at 23.98.

    thanks for your help.

There have been a whole bunch of threads and discussions about this on a bunch of different forums and everybody has their favorites which are:

    PhotoJPEG at 100%
    PNG
    Animation
    Blackmagic
    Sequencial TGA

    Etc

If you have Episode and FCP on the same Mac or network then just export as a reference file (not self-contained).

If I were you I’d just stay in the format that you’ve captured and leave out an intermediate step. The only reason most people move to an intermediate codec is to transfer the content to another machine, usually from a Mac to a PC

Why aren’t you encoding your Flash files at 24fps or 29.97? I’ve looked at the clips on your site and although the picture quality is nice the frame rate is rather choppy.

i had originally asked our consultants about Ref files since we are on a SAN and their was a redounding NO from them and post supervisors.

as for frame rate, we are encoding at 15 FPS for smaller file size, the plan starting in the next week is to change that to 24fps in encoding as that will be our editing timebase.
