Best process for sequenced film frames to video file?

Select the frame rate of the original film. Vegas needs to know how to reassemble the images into the original video so you want to have it match the original. If, for example, these are images taken at 16 fps then tell Vegas they are 16 fps.

Sony YUV is archive quality but the files are huge. I would just render them to Sony MXF with one of the HD422 50Mbps templates. That should give you plenty of quality with decent file sizes.

I tried both the Sony YUV and Sony MXF with one of the HD422 50Mbps templates. The issue I found with both is that the results produced ghosting and blended frames. Also the images are all 4:4:4 and I sort- of would like to keep the quality high.

I suspect that I need to do a pulldown sequence to get the frames from 17 to 24 or 29.97 and then apply the recommend renders…is this correct? BTW I did look at your 18to24 conversion script…is this what I need. Or is there a way to force Vegas to do a non-blended pulldown?

That has nothing to do with the codecs. That has to do with the difference in frame rates. The only way to convert from one frame rate to another is to either blend the missing frames or duplicate the missing frames. Take your pick.

You could render to Avid DNxHD 10-bit 444 or Uncompressed if you want to keep then 4:4:4. You’ll probably need a RAID 0 too keep up with the data rate of uncompressed HD.

Yes, Vegas Pro knows how to pulldown from 24 to 29.97 but it’s probably not going to do that well with the 17 fps footage which is why you saw the ghosting.

I’m not sure which script you are referring to. If you want it to duplicate the missing frames you can go into the event properties and turn on Disable Resample and it will duplicate frames instead of blending them.

The tip about disabling the resampling did the trick. Now the renders look much better. Now I just need to decide the delivery format, mxf or avi?
