May 30, 2016 at 8:49 pmActually yes, i already mentioned that in my first reply (maybe you missed it), i have tested it using mp4 to mp4 with AME, and the xmp is retained within the new mp4 file.
The problem is, if your client decided to use a conversion tools that didn’t retain xmp metadata, it will get stripped (i tested this using basic command line in ffmpeg).——————————————

May 30, 2016 at 9:18 pmOnly if its Quicktime h.264. Basically if it isn’t greyed out for that particular codec, its supported.
Unfortunately, the list is quite limited.
if you want to expand to other unsupported codecs, you’ll need a tool that injects xmp metadata into containers.

I don’t know if this will help you out at all, but if you right-click the file which you got back from the client in Adobe Bridge and choose File Info, then go to the Advanced Tab, you’ll find a path to the original AE project which created that file.
