Best Practices for Animated Text?
Starting a project which will likely have a lot of animated text. I was troubled by the amount of jaggies, strobing and roughness of the text. I was able to lessen this by lower the contrast between text and background, using a dark background and lighter text, using a drop shadow and speeding up the movements of the text across the background.
By the way, in order to check if my display set-up might be contributing to these problems, I put the piece on a dvd and played it on a tv monitor. Same problem.
I notice that Flash does not seem to have this problem as much as AE.

What resolution is the comp you are making and are you using the text tool or some graphic for the text. Next, make sure you have the quality switch on the layer on “best” – that is the little diagonial line dialogue box third from the left on the layer. If you have this set to draft, the text will look blocky.

Most good video training manuals have extensive guidance on composing text for video. But much will depend on your delivery medium: DVD, Web, tape? Then what format? What size? what frame rate? what color space?
kenstone.net has a good article by Philip Hodgetts on maximizing text performance for DV, much of the advice is directly applicable to most formats and codecs.

has some good advice regarding text. Though it refers to Motion, the same can be done in AE.
