  • best practice for renaming source media mid-edit

    Greetings esteemed CC PP Community,
I’m mid-edit on a project and only recently discovered that we have duplicate source media clip-names. Perhaps TMI, but our DP shot with a camera that reset each day, and resulted with duplicate clip names for each of those days. This hadn’t become an issue until we began sharing sequences, and noticed some of the PP clips were linking to the incorrect source files.

My plan is to rename all the source media and then relink in PP, which seems to be fairly straightforward and painless. My preference is to have all the clip names in the project and timeline also be accordingly renamed, but from what research I’ve gathered, this doesn’t seem like an easy thing to do.

Should I be concerned about this? As long as the clips are pointing to the correct source media, does it matter if the clip names in PP are different?

Any advice/pointers would be greatly appreciated!
