We have never really delved into the realm of compositing realistic effects, but we are there now. We are working on a low budget feature film, shot on HD. Need to create an explosion when a molotov cocktail is thrown at a car window. ( The bottle bounced off in the shot and did not explode OOPS)

Just curious about what everyone thinks would be the best third party plug-ins to buy for creating fire-smoke or explosions. We are using AE 6.5 on a G5 dual 2.5. We edit in FCP 4.5.

    Thanks!!

if you can get your hands on Combustion – it has a host of lovely realistic explosion particle pre-sets.

Better still get Particle Illusion which is the particle system in Combustion, except PI runs in real time outside of Combustion and has AFX plugs.
