Best OS for a FCP7 clean instal?

Hello all, I am forced to get a new hard drive and purchase a new copy of FCP7 for my Mac Pro (A 1289). I will need to put a new OS on it. Any advice an what is the perfect OS to put on it and leave it there? I will add that I only use this box for one FCP7 project and nothing else. Thank you in advance.

The last OS to fully support ALL of the FCS3 (including FCP 7) apps was 10.6.8. I have my MacPro cheese grater on that OS and sticking to it. 10.7 will work, as will 10.8…10.9 breaks some apps. But the most FCP 7 friendly OS is 10.6.8

I defer to Shane but have been running FCP Studio (FCP7) on Mountain Lion (OS 10.8.5) which I thought was the last version to run it.
Apple says:

I keep a separate machine with this combo, also to run the first two versions of Premiere CC.

10.8.5 might be OK…I recall the apps working until I updated to 10.9. But me being my paranoid self, and only using that MacPro for the FCS3 apps, I keep mine on 10.6.8, the last, fully supported OS…that was out when FCP 7.0.3 was released.

Sorry, I meant 10.5.8. If you don’t want conflicting answers don’t search the web where you’ll see people report different experiences. Just go with Shane Ross.

I’m running Sierra 10.12.6 (not High Sierra), and I can run FCP7 fine. I believe it will NOT work on High Sierra.
However, I’m only using FCP7, not the other studio apps.
