    Greetings,
I’m about to finalize a video that will be broadcast.
I’m wondering what the best and most painless way to process the video to make it NTSC safe is?
Should I use the filter in FCP, or should I get Joe’s Filters and use their filter?
    Thanks!

Do not trust the Broadcast Safe filter. It doesn’t work for a LOT of people. I tried using it…I applied it to a clip, saw that it clipped off the top that was at 106. Then I rendered and BOOM, it was back at 106. And I am not the only one to notice this flaw.

Your best bet is to use the 3-way color corrector and color correct each shot individually and bring down the hot spots. OH…and don’t trust the scopes in FCP prior to 5.1.2. They have blind spots and don’t sample every line. They will not give you an accurate reading. Get external scopes. FCP 5.1.2 improved the scopes so that when paused you see every line…and from tests I have done they are now very accurate.

There is also a trick to getting all your levels throughout your project clipped into the safe zone. But I don’t post that for the general public. E-mail me and I’ll discuss. comeback@mac.com
