Best method to back up video
I’ve had a second hard drive get corrupted and crash on me in the last few months. Luckily, the single biggest project I had on there I backed up (at least, in an earlier version) on another hard drive, so I can start over on there. But I need to start backing up everything-what’s the best way to do this without doing it manually? For other projects, I’ve just transferred the entire project from my external hard drive to my computer’s data drive, then onto another external hard drive.
In the mean time, I’ll probably be spending another $350 to try and recover everything.
By the way, what started happening with this hard drive, and what happened with my previous one that crashed, is I started getting corrupted recycle bin errors when trying to open the drive’s contents or delete anything. Then, upon starting up my computer with the drive on, it deleted everything. I’m glad my one big project is backed up, but I still have other fairly big ones that aren’t, so this is pretty disturbing.

Besides backing up to a hard drive, you might consider:
1) backing up to an SDHC card (they come in sizes up to 32GB now a days so should be able to hold quite a bit)
2) back up to blu-ray or a DVD.
Generally speaking, I keep everything backed up to an SDHC. When my project is delivered, I then back it up on DVD and put it some place where I’m tired of dusting. 🙂

Thanks. I’m trying Paragon and Cobius to see which I prefer. But I installed Paragon, and…I can’t find the program anywhere on my computer. Cobian is working well so far, but I just wonder if I’ll need more hard drives and a new configuration to do this relatively conveniently.
Dave, the thing about the solutions you mention is that 32 GB isn’t nearly big enough for some of my projects, and I want to backup my projects right away and not when they’re completed.
Edit: Ok, I got Cobian Backup working. So, now the question is, since I only have one hard drive connected in an external enclosure at a time, instead of backing everything up to my computer’s data drive, and then back out onto another hard drive, is there a configuration I should be using that’s easier? I guess I could connect another hard drive via a USB cable, but that’s not nearly as fast as the eSata cable connecting my current enclosure. I guess I need some kind of array of (expensive) hard drives?
