Best lossless delivery format after uncompressed AVI?
Looking for the most transparent (uncompressed) codec/format to render complete video with, for “professional grade” delivery?
We’ve used uncompressed AVI from Premiere (on Win) so far. Those files are super-huge, I know, and not every single application can read them.
But they provide excellent base for ‘client-side’ lossy compression to MP4 et. al. and they are so transparent they can be directly edited and re-rendered later on without any loss of fidelity. I’ve tried and compared many codecs and uncompressed AVI is one of very few I dare to fully trust always.
For some reason, the other guy doesn’t have “AVI uncompressed” in his render export menu (Premiere on mac). So, what format to use instead? I’ve heard Apple ProRes mentioned a long time, but that’s still MP4 and lossy, and I haven’t tested it out carefully yet.
Suggestions and opinions are most welcome.
